Attending the Women’s Health NSW Conference: Insights and Inspiration

Time to read:

1–2 minutes

Chloe and Amelia recently had the opportunity to attend the Women’s Health NSW Conference in Wollongong, joining professionals from across the state who are dedicated to improving outcomes for women’s health. The event provided a valuable space to connect, share knowledge, and engage in meaningful discussions shaping the future of healthcare and advocacy.

Throughout the conference, a strong emphasis was placed on the importance of decolonising healthcare. Speakers highlighted the need to look beyond a person’s risk factors and instead consider the whole individual. This approach encourages healthcare providers to create safe, respectful environments where women feel genuinely heard and understood. A powerful message shared during the sessions was that meaningful and lasting change happens “at the speed of trust”—underscoring the importance of building authentic relationships within healthcare and community settings.

The conference also explored critical issues such as sexual violence advocacy, equipping attendees with insights into supporting survivors and strengthening response systems. Workshops on strategic grant writing offered practical tools to help organisations secure funding and sustain impactful programs.

Collaboration emerged as another key theme, with discussions focusing on how women’s services can work together more effectively to support diverse communities. Additionally, there was an important focus on preventing burnout within the workforce, recognising that supporting those who care for others is essential to maintaining a strong and resilient sector.

Overall, the conference provided a wealth of knowledge, practical strategies, and inspiring conversations. Chloe and Amelia returned with fresh perspectives and ideas that will continue to inform and strengthen the work we do within our community.
