Creating Opportunities for Young People Through Creativity and Connection

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local young people, Rex, Community Engagement Officer & Youth Participation Officer, and Janene, Corporate Partnerships and Cultural Engagement Officer, recently met with the team at Boambee East Community Centre to explore opportunities for collaboration and strengthen community connections.

During the visit, they met with Centre Manager Sue Butler and Accounts Manager and Coordinator of the Young Girls Program, Kerry McLaughlin, to discuss ways of creating meaningful opportunities for young people in the local community. The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to providing safe, inclusive, and engaging spaces where young people can connect, learn, and thrive.

Through our partnership with Boambee East Community Centre, we are working together to create a welcoming environment that encourages creativity, self-expression, and positive social connection. The collaboration offers a variety of activities designed to support young people’s wellbeing and personal development, including arts and crafts, music creation, wellbeing workshops, and opportunities to build friendships and community connections.

These activities provide young people with the chance to develop new skills, grow in confidence, and express themselves in a supportive and encouraging setting. Just as importantly, they create opportunities for young people to share their ideas, build positive relationships, and feel a genuine sense of belonging within their community.

By combining our strengths and working collaboratively, we are helping to empower local youth and create pathways for personal growth, resilience, and community participation. Together, we are fostering an environment where young people feel valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential through creativity, connection, and collaboration.
