On 8 July, Cate and Chrysta from headspace Grafton attended the Mudyala-organised NAIDOC event at the Iluka Sporting Fields, joining the community in celebrating culture, connection, and community spirit.

The event provided a fantastic opportunity to engage with local young people and share information about headspace Grafton’s services, including the exciting new outreach service now available in Yamba. Throughout the day, Cate and Chrysta connected with attendees through a range of games and interactive activities designed to spark conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

To encourage participation, young people who visited the stall were able to take home a range of headspace-branded merchandise, including sunglasses, handballs, and water bottles. Before long, bright green headspace gear could be seen right across the event grounds, creating plenty of visibility and interest in the services available to local young people.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity to win one of two headspace prize packs. Young people earned an entry into the draw by answering questions about headspace services and mental health. The prize packs ultimately went home with two local teenagers within the headspace age group, helping reinforce important mental health messages in a fun and engaging way.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen connections with the Iluka community, raise awareness of available support services, and celebrate NAIDOC Week alongside local families and organisations. headspace Grafton looks forward to continuing to build relationships with young people across the region and supporting their mental health and wellbeing through both existing services and the new Yamba outreach program.

headspace Grafton is delivered locally by Health Voyage and is part of the national headspace network. headspace Grafton is funded by Healthy North Coast through the North Coast PHN Program.
