On Wednesday 19th of August, around thirty Scouts aged between 11 and 18 visited headspace Grafton to learn more about mental health, wellbeing and the support services available to young people in our community.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the Scouts to learn about mental health in an open and welcoming environment, ask questions, and become more familiar with the supports available at headspace.
We would like to thank the Scout group for organising the visit and for taking the time to come along and learn more about mental health and our services. Connecting with young people and helping build their understanding of mental health and available supports is an important part of what we do.
For many young people, stepping into a mental health service for the first time can feel like a big step. Visiting the centre and becoming familiar with the people and services available can help make accessing support feel more comfortable and approachable.
As part of the day, Libby from Mission Australiaโs Family and Carer Mental Health Education Program also delivered a session for parents and carers. The session provided valuable information and practical guidance to help parents and carers better understand and support the mental health and wellbeing of young people. The session was very well received, with positive feedback from those who attended.
It was a wonderful opportunity to bring young people, parents and carers together to build awareness, reduce stigma and strengthen connections with local mental health supports.
We hope the Scouts and their families enjoyed the day and left with a greater understanding of mental health, wellbeing and where they can turn for support when they need it.
headspace Grafton is delivered locally by Health Voyage and is part of the national headspace network. headspace Grafton is funded by Healthy North Coast through the North Coast PHN Program.
