The Coffs Harbour Refugee Education Network recently brought together local organisations, educators, and community stakeholders. This meeting was to discuss ways of supporting young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds as they transition through education and into further training, employment, and community participation.

Among those in attendance was Rex from Headspace Coffs Harbour, who joined representatives from a range of services and organisations committed to improving outcomes for young people in our region. The gathering provided a valuable opportunity to share experiences, strengthen connections, and explore collaborative approaches to supporting young people as they navigate their educational and personal journeys.

Discussions focused on the barriers that young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds may face, including language challenges, cultural adjustment, navigating unfamiliar systems, accessing support services, and identifying suitable educational and employment pathways. Participants shared resources, knowledge, and practical strategies to address these challenges and improve the support available to young people and their families.

Through open discussion and partnership building, attendees explored ways to strengthen local support networks, increase access to opportunities, and create more inclusive pathways that empower young people to achieve their goals. The collaborative nature of the meeting reinforced the importance of working together across sectors to ensure that support is coordinated, accessible, and responsive to the needs of young people.

The meeting highlighted the significant role that community partnerships play in helping young people feel welcomed, connected, and equipped to succeed. By fostering collaboration between organisations, educators, and services such as Headspace Coffs Harbour, the network continues to build stronger pathways that support positive educational, employment, and wellbeing outcomes.

Together, these efforts are helping to create a more inclusive community where every young person has the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and look forward to a positive future.
