Community Connections at Toormina Gardens for R U OK? Day

1–2 minutes

As part of R U OK? Day on 10 September, headspace Coffs Harbour partnered with Mission Australia and Vinnies at Toormina Gardens to connect with community members and promote the importance of meaningful conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

The event created a welcoming space where people could stop for a chat, learn about local support services, and take time to reflect on the simple yet powerful question: “Are you OK?” Throughout the day, community members engaged in supportive conversations, accessed helpful resources, and discovered the range of services available to support their mental health and wellbeing.

By working collaboratively, headspace Coffs Harbour, Mission Australia, and Vinnies helped raise awareness about the importance of checking in on the people around us. Whether it’s a friend, family member, colleague, or neighbour, taking a moment to ask how someone is going can make a meaningful difference and help strengthen connections within our communities.

It was encouraging to see so many people come together, engage with local support services, and openly discuss the value of looking after their mental health. The event highlighted the positive impact that community partnerships can have in creating opportunities for connection, support, and awareness.

R U OK? Day serves as an important reminder that simple conversations can change lives. Through initiatives like this, headspace Coffs Harbour remains committed to fostering a culture of care, kindness, and wellbeing across the region, ensuring community members know they are not alone and that support is always available.

headspace Coffs Harbour is delivered locally by Health Voyage and is part of the national headspace network. headspace Coffs Harbour is funded by Healthy North Coast through the North Coast PHN Program.
