On the 14th of May, headspace Grafton welcomed a group of 30 TAFE students for an informative and interactive day focused on Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and Sexual Health. The visit provided an opportunity for young people to build their knowledge, ask questions, and connect with local youth health supports in a safe and engaging environment.
The sessions were facilitated by Jenni, Charlize, and Maddy, who delivered a series of dynamic group activities designed to keep students actively involved. Throughout the day, students rotated through three interactive stations, each offering valuable insights into different aspects of AOD awareness and sexual health education. The format encouraged open discussion and created a space where students felt comfortable engaging with sensitive but important topics.
The visit proved to be a great success, with participants showing strong interest and enthusiasm across all sessions. Students not only gained practical knowledge and access to helpful resources, but also had the chance to build confidence in discussing health-related issues that impact their wellbeing.
One of the most encouraging outcomes of the day was the immediate impact it had on help-seeking behaviour. Two young people took the important step of signing up with headspace and booking appointments on the spot. This highlights the importance of accessible, youth-friendly education and the role it plays in connecting young people with the support they need.
Overall, the visit reinforced the value of engaging young people through interactive learning experiences and demonstrated the positive impact of early intervention and education in supporting youth mental health and wellbeing.
headspace Grafton is delivered locally by Health Voyage and is part of the national headspace network. headspace Grafton is funded by Healthy North Coast through the North Coast PHN Program.
